U.S. leader Donald Trump said he plans to impose duties of 25% on U.S. steel and aluminum shipments on Monday, February 10, according to the White House press pool.
Trump added aboard his plane while flying to Louisiana that he intends to announce additional measures affecting many countries in the coming days. He specified that he will announce reciprocal duties at a press conference on Tuesday or Wednesday.
According to the White House chief of staff, if the United States will be charged duties, the States will be charged in the same amount.
Trump assured that America will adhere to this principle in trade with all countries. The US will have the principle of reciprocity against states trying to use them, the head of state explained. He added that he would later give details about the measure.
Earlier it was reported that Trump's duties hurt American citizens even before coming into force. Canada and Mexico responded to the duties imposed by Trump.
