At a briefing, Peter Stano, an official representative of the European Union diplomatic office, said that the leadership of the organization calls on the Georgian authorities to support Western sanctions against the aviation sector of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, he reminded Tbilisi of the country's European integration plans.

"The EU calls on Georgia, which wants to become an EU candidate, to join these sanctions," Stano said.

According to him, Russian planes are "unsafe," which is also a reason for Georgian authorities not to let them into their territory.

Earlier, Georgian Parliament Speaker Papuashvili said that the country would not join the anti-Russian sanctions because it would threaten serious economic problems.
