The FBI and Secret Service arrested former teaching assistant Derek Lopez for making threats against President Donald Trump.
According to Fox News, the arrest was the result of a month-long investigation coordinated with agencies, including the University of Illinois Police Department, into Lopez's online activity and personal contacts.
FBI documents note that Lopez recently made "abhorrent" threats against Trump, which led to the federal charges.
Lopez previously worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois. He was fired after a video was posted online showing him flipping over a table during a rally by Turning Point, a nonprofit advocating for conservative policies in universities.
Earlier, it was reported that the US president's approval rating hit a new all-time low. Trump is upset that he will not be able to seek a third presidential term.
