Food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will no longer be issued to US citizens starting November 1. The reason for this is the ongoing government shutdown, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
According to the Department, Democratic senators have already voted against funding the food stamp program 12 times. Ultimately, the well has run dry: benefits will no longer be issued starting November 1, the department emphasized.
It was previously reported that approximately 42 million Americans could stop receiving food stamps in November due to the government shutdown. According to CNN, one in eight US citizens receives food assistance through the SNAP program.
The new US fiscal year began on October 1. Congress failed to approve the budget, and the cabinet is now unable to function.
