For the 12th time, US senators have failed to pass a bill ending the US government shutdown.
The Republican-proposed bill to continue funding the cabinet again failed to secure the 60 votes needed for approval. Thus, US government agencies remain closed.
The current shutdown is the second-longest in US history, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson.
The longest shutdown, which lasted 35 days, occurred during Donald Trump's first term.
It was previously reported that approximately 42 million Americans could lose their food stamps in two weeks. In the US, more than half of the laid-off CDC government employees have been reinstated.
