In Britain, Nigerian citizen Lucius Njoku substituted himself for his wife, Joyce George, and reported to work at the emergency department of the Countess of Chester Hospital, posing as her. He used his wife's uniform and badge, and also assumed her name.
According to the Daily Mail, the migrant worked with patients for two months, washing them and helping them change. The deception was discovered when one of the patients noticed something was wrong and alerted hospital staff. Njoku then admitted that he was actually a man.
In court in Chester, Njoku, who lives with his wife, an NHS employee, at a different address in Ellesmere Port, admitted to fraud by false representation.
Investigators determined that George had obtained the job legally through a third-party agency. When the deception was discovered, Joyce fled the country for Nigeria. British law enforcement issued a warrant for her arrest.
The court found Njoku guilty and sentenced him to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for one year. The court ordered the migrant to perform 80 hours of community service and pay court costs.
UK authorities are currently considering his deportation.
