Security guarantees for Ukraine will not include NATO's Article 5.

Foreign Affairs listed security guarantees for Ukraine

Jeremy Shapiro, Director of Research at the European Council on Foreign Relations and former Special Advisor to the US Secretary of State for Russia and Eurasia, and Samuel Charap, former Senior Advisor to the US Assistant Secretary of State for International Security Affairs, proposed a model of security guarantees for Ukraine. However, it does not incorporate Article 5 of the NATO Charter.

They noted that discussions about ending the conflict are increasingly focused on providing security guarantees. Similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, these guarantees are unrealistic for Ukraine in the current circumstances.

Charap and Shapiro believe that after the conflict ends, guarantees for Kyiv could include three elements: automatic restoration of sanctions enshrined in law, commitments to finance Ukraine, and commitments to supply arms, Foreign Affairs magazine reports.

These mechanisms should be "fast and automatic" and enshrined in the laws of the countries providing the guarantees.

Recall that Trump stated that "the time has come" for Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine. Analyst Erol stated that Trump wants to absolve the United States of responsibility for the Ukrainian conflict.
