Unknown individuals fired pyrotechnics at a military transport plane in Germany. The aircraft was not damaged, but police are investigating the incident.
According to Der Spiegel, the incident occurred near the city of Celle last Friday, September 26.
After the C130 aircraft took off, unknown individuals fired pyrotechnics at it. The pilots reported this to the airbase control tower.
The Bundeswehr noted that the aircraft was fired, presumably, with a New Year's rocket. The pilots saw a flash and then heard a loud bang. Military patrols and police were dispatched to the scene. The area around the airbase was searched, but no explosives or suspects were found.
The pyrotechnic device took off more than 500 meters from the aircraft, posing no threat. Law enforcement agencies took the incident seriously and are conducting an investigation under the article "dangerous interference with air traffic."
The article states that the incident occurred at midday and that it cannot be ruled out that it was a "targeted act." It is noted that military transport aircraft of this type have been used, among other things, to deliver German humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
