Sports lawyer Mikhail Prokopets commented on the CAS decision to lift the ban on Russian tennis players in an interview with Sovetsky Sport. He stated that this verdict does not set a precedent and does not automatically lift restrictions on Russian athletes in football or other sports.
At the same time, Prokopets noted, this is an important step, codifying an alternative legal position now enshrined in the current court decision. As a reminder, on October 16, the CAS explicitly recognized sanctions against Russian athletes as discriminatory for the first time, lifting the ban on their participation in competitions under the auspices of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU).
Previously, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev announced plans for large-scale funding of domestic sports through 2028. Furthermore, the register of Moscow sports facilities eligible for property tax exemptions has been expanded to include seven new facilities.
