The Executive Committee of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) met in Nouakchott. In a statement released Saturday, ANOCA shared its position on the future of Russian and Belarusian athletes. "The members were unanimous in favor of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in all international competitions."
Thus, the African Olympic committees join the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) a year and a half before Paris 2024. "This will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in complete neutrality, without any identifying marks," the statement said.
"Politics cannot pressure sports and deprive them of all the noble values that revolve around peace, unity and solidarity," ANOCA adds. Athletes should never pay a high price for any conflict wherever it occurs."
