A 60 km jam on the M-4 "Don" highway near Rostov-on-Don has almost disappeared.
At the moment, there are about 1000 cars in the jam, but they will soon be able to get out of the snow captivity, as traffic on the highway section was resumed in both directions. This was reported by the Head of the Regional Department of EMERCOM of Russia Sergey Filippov.
Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the jam was reduced to 30 km. The traffic jam on the section of the highway began to form due to bad weather. On the night of March 30, it began to snow with rain in the region. As a result, a state of emergency was introduced in five municipalities of the region.
To help the stranded drivers, part of the fence on the highway was cut off. As a result, cars were able to leave the jammed area by driving in the opposite direction.
In addition, the rescuers deployed eight mobile heating and meals points, seven temporary accommodation points and evacuated 20 people. Food is being brought to the site of the congestion.
The emergency response involved 181 people and 111 pieces of equipment.
