Insomnia and night sweats: how menopause affects sleep quality in women

Menopause deprives women of more than 2 hours of sleep a night - study

A new scientific study involving more than two thousand participants has revealed a significant negative impact of menopause on the quality and duration of sleep in women. According to the findings, menopausal women lose an average of about two and a half hours of rest per night, a problem that affects nearly two-thirds of those surveyed.

The study found that menopausal women wake up an average of 2.7 times per night and experience unpleasant symptoms such as night sweats (61% of respondents), insomnia (41%) and palpitations (23%). As a result, many women complain of increased fatigue and decreased performance during the day.

Hannah Shore, an expert in the field of sleep disorders, in an interview with Pravda.Ru emphasized that the results of the study once again confirm the seriousness of problems related to sleep in women during menopause. This, she said, is due to hormonal imbalance caused by a decrease in the production of estrogen, which plays an important role in the regulation of sleep.

Women in general are more susceptible to sleep disorders due to hormonal fluctuations throughout the reproductive period, as well as due to high levels of stress associated with family responsibilities and professional activities.

We will remind, earlier therapist Kvasova told why in menopause increases the risk of pathological weight gain. Meanwhile, gynecologist Zukhra Ismailova clarifies that menopause is not a reason to refuse sex.
