Irina Volynets, head of the National Parents' Committee, has proposed a ban on the sale of sugary carbonated drinks to minors. A corresponding appeal has already been submitted to the relevant State Duma committee and is under consideration.
According to the initiative's authors, this measure should help combat the growing number of children suffering from overweight and obesity.
Volynets emphasizes that she has received official confirmation from the Research Institute of Child Nutrition regarding the extreme harm of such products for growing children. Sugary carbonated drinks contain excessive amounts of sugar, which are not consistent with physiological norms.
As the activist explained, these "empty calories" contain no nutrients, but they provoke irreversible processes in the body, leading to systemic diseases.
The initiative has found support among health experts. Andrei Demin, President of the Russian Public Health Association, previously proposed an even more radical proposal: a complete ban on the sale of sugary sodas to all categories of citizens.
Experts agree that such drinks do not quench thirst, but only increase it, creating a vicious cycle of consumption and contributing to the development of obesity and diabetes among the population.
