Scientists found three live snakeheads in the Chel River in Kalimpong, West Bengal, in 2024. They learned about it from locals who had eaten the fish. Photos and samples confirmed that the snakehead still exists.

Pravda.Ru writes that the Chela snakehead is one of the most elusive species. It has bright green scales with yellow stripes. It is only found in the Chela River. According to the Thackeray Wildlife Foundation, it is the most abundant snakehead species.

Biologist Forrest Galante also searched for this species but couldn't find it. Finally, he got lucky.

“Solving this mystery of Indian ichthyology underscores the importance of nature study and species conservation,” said Tejas Thackeray, founder of the Wildlife Foundation.

Earlier it was reported that in the waters of the Sea of Azov announced the inhabitants, which have long been considered extinct. And the expert called the stud now the most active predatory fish in the Astrakhan region.
