A study published in the journal Cell describes how a special drug administered by injection forces the immune system to destroy old cells. This gives impetus to the growth of new ones and the restoration of the body.
The new drug has already been tested on elderly macaques - the results were successful, without side effects. The animals began to feel better: their reproductive functions and memory improved, the process of tissue restoration began. The level of chronic inflammation also decreased.
The macaques "rejuvenated" by about two and a half years, which, according to scientists' calculations, is equivalent to seven years for humans. This opens up great prospects for future research and possible use in medicine.
A substance to combat tumors was synthesized in Tomsk. Scientists from Australia also dispelled the myth about the main cause of crunching in the knees.
