Experts from Tokamak Energy Ltd, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, together with other colleagues from Germany were able to heat a nuclear reactor to 100 million kelvin.
This is a record, given that the size of the chamber is no more than 80 centimeters across.
"Ion temperatures above five kiloelectronvolts have not previously been achieved in any spherical tokamak. They were obtained only in much larger devices with much greater plasma heating power," the experts said.
The British researchers consider this result to be quite good.
