The St. Petersburg Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation into a terrorist attack after a package exploded at a St. Petersburg post office in the Obukhovskoye Oborony district. The incident occurred early in the evening of September 24. One of the packages began to smoke, and police officers arriving at the scene discovered three firecrackers hidden in a vitamin C tube. The package was intended for shipment to Tatarstan.
According to Fontanka, police detained a 62-year-old man who mailed several boxes and filed a report against him for petty hooliganism. Although the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no explosion and no one was injured, the Investigative Committee reclassified the case as a terrorist attack.
Another 12 food service establishments in St. Petersburg have been denied the right to sell alcohol at night for various reasons.
