Analysts at T-Data (a service owned by T-Bank) found that by September 2025, traffic to cafes and restaurants in St. Petersburg had fallen by 9% compared to early autumn last year. However, thanks to a 13% increase in the average bill, turnover at catering establishments increased by 2%, now standing at approximately 600 rubles.
In the Leningrad Region, turnover at catering establishments grew by 42% over the same period, one of the highest increases in Russia. Nationally, industry revenue grew by 8% over the year, despite a 3% decrease in the number of transactions. Owners increased profits by increasing the average bill from 516 to 576 rubles.
According to RBC, the unique situation in the Leningrad Region is due to the fact that the cafe and restaurant market in St. Petersburg is already established and offers virtually no opportunity for new players. Meanwhile, a long-term trend toward investment in the catering industry is emerging in the region. The largest number of new locations opened in July 2025.
It was previously reported that in 2025, St. Petersburg residents began to visit movie theaters significantly less frequently.
At the same time, St. Petersburg residents began to spend more money on medications.
