The Moscow City Court upheld the 13-year prison sentence of former Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Lavlentsev. The lawyers' appeals, which sought a suspended sentence or a complete overturning of the sentence based on mitigating circumstances and compensation paid to the victims, were rejected.
The former high-ranking official was found guilty of four counts of embezzlement and fraud totaling 3.3 billion rubles. Following his release, Lavlentsev will be prohibited from holding management positions related to financial operations and management in commercial entities for three years. The fine, initially set at 132 million rubles, was reduced by the court.
From May 2013 to October 2014, Vladimir Lavlentsev served as Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, responsible for housing and utilities. For three years, beginning in 2015, he served as the chief federal inspector for Moscow, and in 2021, he became the CEO of JSC Stroytransgaz.
Lavlentsev was arrested in July 2023 as part of a fraud investigation. Initially, his pretrial detention was house arrest, later commuted to pretrial detention. Furthermore, the former vice-governor of St. Petersburg was declared bankrupt, Prime reports.
