Tracy became the first woman in history to head the American diplomatic mission in Moscow, she was confirmed for this post in December 2022. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov previously said that Washington had not yet requested an agrément from Moscow to appoint a new ambassador. The name of Lynne Tracy's successor has not yet been announced. Before working in Russia, Tracy also held posts in the US embassies in Armenia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. For her service, she received high awards, including the Secretary of State's award for courage.
