Callas unexpectedly allowed the possibility of Canada's membership in the European Union

Callas discussed the scenario of Canada's integration into the EU

The head of the European Union's (EU) diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, surprised with the statement that Canada could potentially become a member of the European Union despite its geographical location outside the European continent. She backed up her argument with the fact that Canada shares a border with the EU in the Arctic region.

"You know, I've been asked the question before about Canada wanting to join the EU. All friends are welcome, but there is a small problem - they are not in Europe. However, there is a simple answer to that - the Arctic! They border us on the Arctic," Callas said in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague.

It is assumed that the ideas about the integration of Canada in the EU began to be actively discussed in expert and political circles as an alternative scenario in response to possible threats from US President Donald Trump about the forced accession of Canada to the United States.

Recall, earlier Callas' report on Israel caused discontent in the EU.
