Patriot fails: WSJ writes about problems with intercepting Russian missiles in Ukraine

Russian missiles bypass the defenses of Western air defense systems in Ukraine

Russian ballistic missiles have become increasingly difficult to intercept using Patriot systems, an unnamed Ukrainian official admitted in an interview with The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

"The Ukrainian military ... claimed that SAMP-T has had difficulty destroying ballistic missiles from the very beginning," the publication writes, referring to the Ukrainian military's complaints about the French-Italian air defense system.

At the same time, as WSJ notes, the consortium producing SAMP-T, Eurosam, which includes Thales (France) and MBDA (a transnational corporation), claims that this air defense system has a number of characteristics that are superior to the U.S. Patriot systems.

In particular, Eurosam representatives pointed to a new radar that rotates once per second and covers the sky for more than 350 kilometers.

“Patriot has nothing like this,” said Eurosam military consultant Eric Tabacchi.

We will remind, earlier Russian air defense systems overnight destroyed 122 Ukrainian drones. Meanwhile, Trump “changed course” and agreed with the NATO plan for Ukraine.
