The situation in the conflict between Israel and Iran is developing along the path of “galloping escalation” and the level of its unpredictability is absolute. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov made this assessment.
“The situation is alarming. <...> is on the path of further escalation, galloping escalation. The level of unpredictability is absolute,” Peskov told reporters commenting on the sides' mutual strikes.
According to the latest data, some 400 missiles and hundreds of drones have been fired at Israeli territory since Iran's retaliation began.
The Kremlin urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and move as soon as possible to a diplomatic way of resolving the crisis. Peskov recalled that Russia offered its mediation services, but sees no readiness for a peaceful settlement.
“At the moment we see reluctance on the part of Israel at least to turn to any mediation services and to enter the peaceful settlement track at all,” he noted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 13, the day the Israeli operation began. The Russian leader also discussed the situation in the Middle East with US President Donald Trump.
