The renovation of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University's Metallurg Stadium on Semenovskaya Embankment has been completed, as announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Thursday, September 4. An ultra-modern multifunctional sports complex has replaced the dilapidated early 20th-century stands.
The Metallurg Stadium, built in the 1920s, belonged for a long time to the Serp i Molot factory, which ceased operations in 2011. Over time, the facilities and the football field fell into disrepair, and the sports arena, which had given rise to many outstanding Soviet athletes, effectively ceased to exist.
In 2022, a decision was made to restore the historic sports facility: first, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and in 2024, large-scale reconstruction work began. According to Sobyanin, who visited the renovated Metallurg Stadium, the city gave the university an excellent gift at the beginning of the academic year: a modern sports center was built on the site of the abandoned territory.
The renovated Metallurg Stadium has everything you need not only for soccer and rugby, with a modern field and comfy covered stands, but also for volleyball (including beach volleyball), tennis, basketball, track and field, and other sports. The complex includes a two-story sports and fitness center, an outdoor gym, a Russian Ninja-style obstacle course, a playground, and a relaxation area for parents.
