A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in northwest China's Xinjiang

The press service of China's seismological center reported a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in the northwest of the country.

According to the ministry, significant earthquakes were felt in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The first strike was registered by seismographs at 07:49 PM (02:49 Moscow time) near Shahyar County (Aksu District). The earthquake origin was located 50 km from the earth's surface, experts of seismological center of the People's Republic of China specified.

Official comments on the degree of destruction and the number of victims from the Chinese authorities were not received by the media.
