Nineteen people were injured in an explosion at a plant in Kopeysk.

The number of victims in the explosion in Kopeysk has risen to 19.

On October 23, Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexey Teksler announced an increase in the number of casualties from the explosion at a factory in Kopeysk. The death toll now stands at 19.

"Updated information from our medical personnel regarding the victims in Kopeysk: a total of 19 people have been injured," the governor wrote on his Telegram channel.

As a reminder, information about the explosion at the plant in Kopeysk emerged on October 22. The incident triggered a fire, which then led to another explosion on the plant's premises. According to information received by Izvestia from a source, safety violations may have been the cause of the incident.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident under Article 217, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to violations of industrial safety requirements at hazardous industrial facilities resulting in the deaths of two or more people due to negligence.
