From the available data, it appears that Zeineb-Kassandra was born by caesarean section on July 6 this year, at a gestational age of 7.5 months. After the delivery, the newborn was placed in the neonatal ward, while her mother remained in the post-natal ward. The relatives assure that the quality of medical care for the mother and the newborn did not cause any complaints. However, in the same ward there was a six-year-old boy, who was the son of another woman in labor, placed in the same ward.
On July 11, Zaineb-Kassandra's mother was in the process of discussing the details of her impending discharge with the attending physicians. At that moment, she received an emergency call from the medical staff urging her to come to the ward immediately. Upon arrival, the woman found her newborn baby lying unconscious on the floor.
As it later turned out, the six-year-old boy, being unattended, decided to “play” with the infant, as a result of which he accidentally dropped the girl from his hands. The fall resulted in a serious head injury. This is reported by BFM TV, referring to the official statement of the press service of the medical institution.
Despite the immediately provided medical assistance in full, doctors were unable to save the life of the newborn. Four days after the incident, Zeineb-Cassandra died.
The Lille City Prosecutor's Office has initiated a comprehensive investigation to clarify all the circumstances that led to the tragic death of the child. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for next Thursday.
The hospital administration expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, emphasizing that what happened was a real shock for the entire medical staff and patients. The parents, relatives, as well as staff members were offered professional psychological assistance.
This incident highlighted the problem of ensuring the safety of newborns in medical institutions and once again reminded of the importance of strict compliance with internal regulations.
Earlier, three people drowned in the Klyazma River in the Vladimir region, and a woman was killed in a UAV attack in the Belgorod region.
