A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 was recorded in the coastal zone of the Mexican state of Chiapas. This was reported by the national seismological service of the country.

The epicenter of the tremors was located 138 kilometers southwest of the town of Pihihyapan. The tremors were felt at 3:49 local time (12:49 Moscow time). The depth of the origin of the earthquake was 10 kilometers.

At the moment there is no information about the destruction, victims and the threat of tsunami.

Earlier near the southern shores of the Kuril Islands in the morning on Monday, June 20, there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0. This was reported in the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Epicenter of the earthquake was registered at 07:26 at the depth of 112 km in 73 kilometers to the south-east of Gornoe village, which is located on Iturup Island.

The seismic event was without victims and destructions. No tsunami threat was announced in the Kurils.
