On September 9, a horrific incident occurred in the village of Paragpurwa in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. During an evening dinner in the open air, a wolf attacked a five-year-old girl. The incident occurred when the child's mother briefly went into the house to get her mobile phone.
The predator immediately took advantage of the situation, grabbed the child and dragged her into a nearby forest. The girl's father and uncle, hearing screams, immediately rushed in pursuit, but the darkness prevented them from saving the child. The next morning, the girl's body with multiple deep wounds on her back and face was found in a field about eight hundred meters from the house.
Forest department spokesman Ram Singh Yadav confirmed that the preliminary investigation indicates an attack by a wild animal. In connection with the tragic incident, local authorities are increasing patrols of the area and installing special cages to catch the dangerous predator. The incident is yet another reminder of the growing problem of wildlife-human interaction in rural India.
