A shooting occurred in a courthouse in Tirana, Albania's capital, killing a judge and injuring two other people scheduled to attend the trial. The perpetrator managed to flee the scene but was soon apprehended.
According to the press, Judge Astrit Kalaja was scheduled to hear an appeal in a property dispute. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that following this "tragic event," punishments for firearms-related crimes must be toughened. A total of 213 firearms incidents were recorded in Albania from January to June 2025.
