A suitcase exploded at the Frederic Chopin International Airport in Warsaw. The incident was reported by airport spokeswoman Anna Dermont-Szymaniak.
The incident occurred at the sorting area of luggage. No one was injured.
“The explosion occurred due to depressurization of a hermetically sealed container in the luggage of one of the passengers on the territory of the sorting yard,” said the airport spokeswoman, her words quoted by Polish broadcaster TVN24.
She explained that the owner of the luggage was on a flight from Warsaw to Vienna.
We had to suspend the registration of passengers, but the situation was quickly resolved and after less than an hour the registration was resumed at the airport. It is not reported whether the owner of the suitcase flew to Vienna or whether he was detained until the end of the proceedings.
According to some reports, the suitcase contained biomaterials and the explosion was caused by dry ice that was in the same luggage to keep the temperature down.
Japan's Miyazaki airport canceled all flights the other day because of an explosion on the taxiway. There were no casualties.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Middle East is escalating. Rosaviatsia recommends airlines not to fly to airports in Israel, Lebanon and Iran. Ramil Miftakhov, President of the Association of Travel Agencies of Tatarstan, believes that it is difficult to predict whether airports in the UAE and Egypt will be closed. But so far flights have not been canceled.
