Watermelons have become much more affordable this year: prices in chain stores start at Br30 per kilogram, which is 17% lower than in July 2024. Some retailers offer watermelons even at 20 rubles per kilogram.
At the same time, the minimum prices for melons in federal retail chains remained at the level of last year - 99 rubles per kilogram, ACORT analysts note.
According to the research company NTech, the traditional seasonal decline in prices for watermelons and melons began in the 28th week of the year (July 7-13). The weighted average price of watermelons across all sales channels in the country averaged 52.2 rubles per kilogram, down 16% compared to the previous week. This was reported by TASS.
The weighted average price of melons decreased by 10% for the week, reaching 117 rubles per kilogram. Compared to the same week in 2024, the average price of watermelons decreased by 2%, and melons - by 12%.
Stanislav Bogdanov, chairman of the presidium of ACORT, explained that this year the seasonal factor has affected prices earlier than usual, due to which the cost of popular melons is already lower than last year.
In addition, the increase in supplies from domestic producers and the expansion of the assortment have an impact. Already at the beginning of the season in stores there are three to six varieties of watermelons and at least three types of melons.
A significant role is played by the efforts of retailers and producers to maintain affordable prices for goods in high seasonal demand.
