Of the seven products that make up pancakes, six decreased in price last week. Only milk went up in price, but only by three kopecks. Butter fell in price the most - from Br1,212.85 to Br1,209.31, and chicken eggs - from Br93.18 to Br91.5.
A significant contribution to this process is the fact that absolutely all products used in the preparation of pancakes (eggs, milk, butter, sunflower oil, flour, sugar and salt) are included in the list of so-called socially important goods.
"This means that if the prices of such products rise by more than 10% (except for the seasonal factor) within 60 consecutive calendar days, the state has the right to freeze them at a certain level. The state asks (and sometimes obliges) both producers and retailers to work with a minimum margin on these items," said Svetlana Ilyashenko, Associate Professor of the Basic Department of Trade Policy at Plekhanov Russian Economic University, in a conversation with aif.ru.
At the same time, being on the social shelves does not affect the quality of these products in any way. It should not be lower than the established mandatory requirements, said Ilyashenko. Often these are products in the simplest and most economical packaging.
"According to Rosstat, average consumer prices for eggs have decreased by more than 21.2% since the beginning of the year, from 118.33 to 91.5 rubles per dozen. On average, eggs are getting cheaper by 2% per week. The emergence of affordable “social” eggs for Br30-40 of C1, C2 categories makes the bulk of the population, especially price-sensitive, switch to this product. Demand for eggs of C0 and CB categories is falling, so retailers have to make discounts and promotions for these categories," added the expert.
The price of “social” eggs is a powerful psychological and economic “anchor”, as consumers begin to perceive the price of more than 45-50 rubles per dozen as overpriced, which puts additional pressure on the market. For this reason, producers also have to look for ways to reduce costs.
