St. Petersburg has seen an epidemic of long construction projects, with major developers failing to deliver houses

St. Petersburg's largest developers, LSR and PIK, push back housing delivery dates

Two of the ten largest developers in St. Petersburg have started to postpone the delivery dates of their residential projects. According to the Unified Resource of Developers, LSR Group has the biggest backlog, delaying the commissioning of almost 168 thousand square meters of housing.

The company itself explained the postponement by a change of contractors and a shortage of finishing materials. Also, the developer PIK Group of Companies is delivering housing with a delay of more than a month. Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Khusnullin has already called this trend in the market of new buildings “dangerous”. In turn, Deputy Minister of Construction Nikita Stasishin suggested that it may be profitable for developers to delay the commissioning of objects. According to him, after commissioning of the house, banks are reluctant to issue a family mortgage for such apartments.

While some Russian companies are looking for new markets for chocolate, and others are facing tougher insurance conditions, St. Petersburg's construction industry is facing its own crisis.
