Buckwheat harvest in Russia may fall by a third due to a record reduction in crops.

Buckwheat acreage in Russia has reached a 22-year low.

Buckwheat acreage has decreased to 746,400 hectares, the lowest level since the beginning of the century. Accumulated reserves of the grain are temporarily holding back price increases, but buckwheat prices will begin to rise in the near future.

Buckwheat acreage in Russia has declined by 32.4% this year, reaching just 746,400 hectares. This is the lowest figure in the past 22 years of data collection, which will inevitably impact the gross harvest of this popular grain.

According to industry experts, the buckwheat harvest by the end of 2025 could decline by 10-30%, although the exact figures will depend on weather conditions and actual yields in key growing regions.

This situation is explained by economic factors: significant grain reserves have accumulated in the country in previous years, leading to lower purchase prices and making buckwheat cultivation less profitable for farmers.

Analysts note that current retail prices remain relatively low, averaging 77.9 rubles per kilogram, but this stability is temporary.
