Over the first eight months of the year, Russian companies imported approximately $619 million worth of South Korean passenger cars, 50% more than in the same period last year. This is the highest figure since 2021.
Cars with gasoline engines between 1.5 and 3 liters were the most popular among Russian buyers, accounting for almost $450 million. Diesel cars with engines between 1.5 and 2.5 liters also performed well, accounting for approximately $127 million. Demand for compact gasoline cars with engines up to 1.5 liters was less noticeable, accounting for approximately $40 million, RIA Novosti reports, citing South Korean customs data.
Russia ranks 12th in the world in terms of Korean car purchases. The largest buyers this year were the United States ($20.3 billion), Canada ($3.7 billion), Australia ($1.9 billion), Kyrgyzstan ($1.8 billion) and the United Kingdom ($1.7 billion).
