In April this year, the Russian market of new cars also reflected a 27% year-on-year decline, amounting to 116.8 thousand units. However, this figure was 25% higher than in March 2025, indicating some sort of market rebound compared to the previous month.
In April, passenger car sales totaled 101.4 thousand. That's down 25% from April 2024, but up 28% from March of this year. The light commercial vehicle market fell 16% year-over-year to nearly 9.8 thousand units, which was simultaneously 16% higher than March's results. Truck sales totaled 4.6 thousand units, showing a decline of 58% compared to April last year and 5% compared to March. Bus sales were down 52% year-over-year, but up 20% versus March, totaling 1.1 thousand units.
In April, the decline in sales of domestically produced cars was less significant than that of imported models. During the month, 65.2 thousand cars produced in Russia were sold (12% less compared to April 2024), and 51.5 thousand imported cars (a drop of 40%). In general, at the end of January-April 2025, the share of domestic vehicles in the market increased by 10 percentage points compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
