An undersea fiber-optic cable of telecommunications company Bell, which connects the mainland to the islands, has been damaged again in Canada. The company's network director confirmed the incident.

According to the Canadian television channel CBC, in 2023, a similar incident has already occurred with a Canadian submarine fiber-optic cable, but the causes of that event then could not be established.

The channel said Bell is considering installing a surveillance system in the Gulf of St. Lawrence because one of its submarine fiber optic cables connecting Cape Breton Island and the west coast of Newfoundland has been cut again.

Bell's director of network technology, David Joyce, said the damage to the cable looks like it was intentionally cut, possibly using a bolt cutter. He also suggested that the cable may have snagged on an anchor or other equipment on the vessel and was damaged after it was brought to the surface. The incident is currently under investigation.

Earlier it was reported that another cable between Sweden and Finland was damaged.

The head of the Defense Ministry of Germany Pistorius considers the damage of the communication cable with Finland as sabotage.
