US President Donald Trump's administration appealed to the Supreme Court on Thursday, March 13, asking it to overturn lower court rulings that blocked an executive order aimed at eliminating birthright citizenship.
In an accompanying letter, U.S. Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Harris noted that nearly universal birthright citizenship has formed strong incentives for illegals and led to “birth tourism.”
Since returning to the White House, Trump has signed an executive order to limit the granting of American citizenship by birthright. At issue are the children of illegal migrants. After that, the authorities of 22 American states went to the courts to appeal the decree. Then several instances temporarily blocked the action of the document.
Earlier, the Trump administration launched an application for “self-deportation” of migrants.
