British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. They discussed the situation in the Middle East.

Starmer said he was deeply concerned about the situation in the region and urged all sides to reduce tensions. He said there is a risk of miscalculation and it is time for a calm analysis of the situation. He called on Iran to refrain from attacking Israel.

The politicians touched on the conflict in Gaza. The British prime minister emphasized his commitment to a ceasefire, the release of hostages and increased humanitarian aid for the Palestinian enclave. Starmer added that in order to achieve this, it is necessary to focus on diplomatic negotiations.

The British prime minister also raised the topic of foreigners detained in Iran, pointing to the need to ensure their access to medical care. The leaders agreed that constructive dialog between Britain and Iran is in the interests of both countries.

Starmer pointed out that these relations will not develop unless Tehran abandons destabilizing actions, among them threats against individuals in Britain and Russian assistance in the context of the Ukrainian conflict.

According to Sky News sources, the conversation between Starmer and Pezeshkian lasted half an hour.

Earlier, the Iranian authorities through Hungary warned Israel of the intention to strike.
