Russia condemns Turkish decision to open ghost town in Cyprus for tourists

The quarter has been closed since 1974, when Turkish troops staged a military coup there. The entire Greek population was expelled from Varosha, and the resort ceased to exist, having received the name "ghost city." Its territory is cordoned off by security, entrance for tourists is prohibited there.

The Russian Foreign Ministry considers the statements about the opening of Varosha inadmissible. This will violate existing UN Security Council resolutions, which will further complicate the resolution of the conflict between Turkey and Greece on the Cyprus issue.
