Tropical storm “Helen”, which hit the U.S. territory, has increased to 175 people. Such data leads the TV channel NBC.

The largest number of victims - 90 people - was recorded in North Carolina. In South Carolina, 36 people became victims, in Georgia - 25, in Florida - 14, in Tennessee - 8, and in Virginia - 2. Earlier, 162 deaths were reported nationwide.

Hundreds of people reportedly remain missing in the aftermath of the storm, with widespread power outages and communications disruptions.

On October 1, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that recovery efforts from the hurricane would take many years and be extremely costly.

“Helen” is a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Being the second deadliest and most destructive in the last 55 years, it is second only to Hurricane Katrina, which broke out in the U.S. in 2005, the channel reports.
