Batyrshina named Viner's possible successor in the Russian national team

Gymnast Batyrshina believes that Kanaeva can replace Wiener in the Russian national team

Two-time Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics, 17-time world champion Yevgeniya Kanaeva may lead the Russian national team after Irina Viner left her post. This opinion was shared by Yana Batyrshina, silver medalist of the Olympic Games in 1996 and five-time world champion.

Batyrshina said a couple of years ago that only two people could pull it off: Alina Kabaeva and Evgenia Kanaeva, but at the time Alina did not yet have “Heavenly Grace”. In this regard, only Evgenia remains a candidate, the gymnast noted.

At the same time, Batyrshina added that she does not know whether Kanaeva herself needs it.

“Due to the fact that the head of the Federation has changed, it is possible that the situation will be decided completely differently: will it be a student of Irina Wiener or in general a person not from gymnastics? It is difficult to say how the appointment of the head coach will take place now. We can guess and assume, choose the best options,” Batyrshina told Gazeta.Ru.

She said that it is difficult for her to guess, but believes that the national team can be headed by Alina and Zhenya - the faces of Russian rhythmic gymnastics.
