St. Petersburg police conducted a successful interregional operation to suppress the activities of those distributing child pornography on the Telegram messenger. During the investigative operations in the Novgorod Region, a 50-year-old local resident was detained on suspicion of administering an entire network of online communities specializing in the distribution of prohibited content involving minors.
During a personal search and a search of the detainee's residence, officers seized two mobile devices and a flash drive containing evidence of illegal activity. Subsequent examination of the electronic devices confirmed the presence of an extensive database of pornographic materials featuring children, distributed through Telegram channels, Moika78 reports.
The suspect confessed, telling investigators that he had been moderating one of the largest communities dealing with prohibited topics since 2023.
A criminal case has been opened against the man under Part 2 of Article 241 of the Russian Criminal Code, which provides for strict criminal liability for the production and distribution of pornographic materials depicting minors. Penalties under this article include a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years.
