Doctor Shirshova: Sleep disturbance accelerates aging

Nutritionist Ekaterina Shirshova has listed the main factors that significantly accelerate the aging of the body. These include glycation, protein deficiency, chronic inflammation, sleep disorders and photoaging.

According to the specialist, sleep disturbance is one of the most critical factors. Lack of quality night rest is a direct path to accelerated aging.

During sleep, the body produces melatonin, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells. Regular lack of sleep provokes stress, inflammation and weakens the immune system. To slow down aging, you need to sleep at least 7 hours a night, Shirshova told Gazeta.ru.

Glycation, the process of tissue damage due to excess simple carbohydrates, also plays an important role. Excess sugar in the body reacts with proteins and fats to form harmful compounds (AGEs), which destroys collagen and elastin, worsening the condition of the skin and blood vessels. The solution is to replace simple carbohydrates with complex ones.

Protein deficiency also has a negative effect on aging. The recommended amount is 1.2-1.6 g/kg of weight before 60 years of age and 0.8-1.2 g/kg after 60 (if physically active). Protein deficiency leads to loss of muscle mass, decreased bone density and impaired collagen production.

Chronic inflammation, often caused by a lack of omega-3 fatty acids, is another factor in aging. Omega-3s protect the brain and blood vessels. It is important to increase your intake of oily fish and seafood and reduce omega-6 rich foods (vegetable oils, convenience foods, fast food).

Photo-aging of the skin due to UV light destroys collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles and loss of elasticity. Regular use of sunscreen with SPF protects the skin and keeps it youthful.

In conclusion, the doctor emphasizes that effective anti-aging is not a miracle pill, but a science-based approach to lifestyle and nutrition.

Earlier, nutritionist Solomatina refuted the myth about the harm of instant coffee. Also nutritionist Pristansky dispelled the myth about products that slow down aging.
