In the cold season motorists use non-freezing liquid in their cars. Dmitry Kovalchuk, a leading training manager at Bigam, named the key requirements to which attention should be paid when buying “non-freezing liquid”.
The specialist recommended to first look at the composition. “Non-freeze” should be on isopropyl alcohol, then it is considered safe. However, some manufacturers do not indicate the composition on the package. Such liquids may contain methanol. Methanol vapors are dangerous for humans, they negatively affect vision and respiratory organs.
Kovalchuk in conversation with the “Southern Federal” noted that “non-freeze” is splashed on the glass of the car, its vapors through the fan get into the cabin and can have an impact on the human body.
An essential moment for the choice is the container in which the non-freezing liquid is located. It should be transparent. In this case, you can see the presence of precipitates or impurities. Nowadays, in stores it is increasingly possible to meet “non-freezing liquid” sold in containers made of co-extruded polyethylene and polypropylene materials. The same materials are used for packing sauces and mayonnaise. Such containers are easily torn and will spill out in the trunk.
In this regard, it is better to choose canisters, even if they will differ greatly in price, emphasized the specialist.
Kovalchuk advised novice drivers to read the names on the packaging carefully. It is not uncommon for winter discounts to sell a warm-weather fluid that will freeze at sub-zero temperatures. Winter season fluid can be used at any time of the year, concluded the expert.
