Japan plans to replace traditional fuels with ammonia

The initiative to replace hydrocarbon fuel with alternative, ammonia, was announced this week by a representative of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Ryo Minami.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on October 26 set a goal for the government to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere by 2050. The solution to this problem involves the replacement of existing energy sources in the energy industry with environmentally friendly ones.

Ammonia is one of these. According to scientists, ammonia, releasing a significant amount of energy during combustion, significantly less releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which affects the development of the greenhouse effect. Japan believes that it will be able to become an example for other countries in switching to this type of fuel.

At the same time, experts express fears that Japan will not be able to ensure the uninterrupted supply of this type of fuel for one reason - the current volume of the world market will not provide twenty percent of the ammonia needed by the country.
