Beijing sees spike in new COVID-19 cases ahead of Olympics

The authorities of the capital of China have closed several quarters for quarantine.

Pan Xinghuo, deputy head of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, reported a spike in new cases of coronavirus infection in the Chinese capital on January 30, ABC Channel reported.

Another 12 cases of covid infection in the northern part of Beijing were detected overnight. Several residential areas of the city authorities have closed to quarantine to prevent the spread of infection.

It is noted that this is the largest daily increase in cases in 18 months.

Recall that the Olympic Winter Games will start in Beijing on February 4. Athletes arrive in China on the eve of the competitions. Among them, there are also people infected with the disease. On Friday, January 28, organizers of the Olympics reported 36 new cases of infection among those associated with the Games, including athletes.

All those infected have been sent to isolation.
