In Italy, the mayor of Castenazo, Carlo Gubellini, has banned barbers from washing their clients' hair twice, reports The Guardian. Salons face a fine of 500 euros for the violation.

The mayor's initiative is intended to save water amid the worst drought in decades. As Gubellini notes, thousands of liters of water are wasted every day because of double washing.

"Castenazo is small. Imagine what that means in terms of water consumption in large cities," the city's chief explained. The publication notes that Castenazo, with a population of 16,000, has 10 barbershops and barber shops.
