In the city of Antwerp, under the dome of St. James’ Church, workers found a message that was dated July 21, 1941.
A special message was left by painters John Jansen, Yul Giselik, Louis Chantrain and Yul Van Hemeldonk, who obviously painted the ceiling of the church in 1941.
This information appeared on October 26 on Instagram on the official page of the city of Antwerp, Stad Antwerpen.
The painters talked about their hard lives on two sheets in a matchbox.
"When this ceiling is painted again, we will no longer be on this earth. We must tell the descendants that we did not enjoy our lives. We survived two wars, one in 1914 and one in 1940. We work hungry here because we spend every last cent for scraps of food."
And the authors of the note also gave advice to descendants in case of war:
"We want to give advice to the next generations if it comes to war again. Always have large stocks of food, especially rice, coffee, flour, tobacco, grain and wheat, to survive. Enjoy the fullness of life and, if necessary, get married. Those who are already married, take care of your home."
